Abstract
The global dominance of English in education and employment poses a challenge to the intellectualization of the Filipino language amidst globalization. This study serves as a preliminary step in developing a model strategy—KORPMUNIKASYON—that aims to integrate employability skills, particularly social communicative competence, into the teaching of Filipino in General Education. Using a descriptive design and qualitative survey with purposive sampling, the study identified key communication skills valued across industries, such as effective communication, active listening, collaboration, and appropriate use of digital tools. These skills include writing emails, memos, and reports; participating in meaningful discussions; engaging in public communication; and explaining complex ideas clearly and simply. Based on the responses of industry representatives, the study confirms the strong demand for these skills, leading to the development of the KORPMUNIKASYON model that aligns with the real-world needs of employers. Grounded in task-based language learning and communicative language teaching, this model illustrates how theory and practice can be effectively integrated in Filipino language education to enhance workplace readiness. The study recommends pilot testing of the proposed model, curriculum revision to embed workplace communication standards, and the promotion of interdisciplinary teaching using Filipino.
ABSTRAK
Ang pandaigdigang paggamit ng Ingles sa edukasyon at trabaho ay isang hamon sa intelektuwalisasyon ng wikang Filipino sa gitna ng globalisasyon. Ang pag-aaral na ito ay isang paunang hakbang sa pagbuo ng isang modelong estratehiya—KORPMUNIKASYON—na naglalayong linangin ang kasanayang pampagtatrabaho, partikular ang komunikatibong pansosyal, sa pagtuturo ng asignaturang Filipino sa Pangkalahatang Edukasyon. Gamit ang deskriptibong disenyo at kwalitatibong sarbey na may purposive sampling, natukoy ang mga kasanayang mahalaga sa iba’t ibang industriya gaya ng epektibong pakikipagtalastasan, aktibong pakikinig, pakikipagtulungan, at angkop na paggamit ng teknolohiya sa komunikasyon. Kabilang dito ang pagsulat ng email, memo, ulat, at liham; pakikilahok sa makabuluhang diskusyon; pakikipag-ugnayan sa gawaing pampubliko; at pagpapaliwanag ng komplikadong ideya sa malinaw at payak na paraan. Batay sa mga datos, lumitaw ang pangangailangan sa mga kasanayang ito upang maging epektibo sa lugar ng trabaho, dahilan upang matagumpay na mabuo ang modelong KORPMUNIKASYON na sumasalamin sa mga kasanayang inaasahan ng industriya. Ang modelong ito ay nakabatay sa task-based language learning at communicative language teaching, at nagpapakita ng praktikal na aplikasyon ng teorya sa pagtuturo ng wikang Filipino. Iminumungkahi ng pagaaral ang pagsasagawa ng pilot testing upang masuri ang kaangkupan at kabisaan ng modelo sa iba’t ibang konteksto, at ang rebisyon ng kurikulum ng Filipino upang higit na maisulong ang integrasyon ng kasanayang pampagtatrabaho sa General Education.
